Dean Jones started his career back in the 80’s, specifically in the 1981 – 82 season for cricket. His first team was with Victoria in the Sheffield Shield. In 1984 he made his grand Test Debut in the West Indies for Australia. Although he did not make the original XI, he eventually got drafted in when Steve Smith fell sick. From 1984 – 1992, Dean Jones played a total of 52 Test matches. He was able to score 3,631 runs which include 11 centuries with an average score of 46.55.

Dean Jones cricket player’s most prominent innings happened on his third Test, a match against India in Chennai, 1986. He was suffering from dehydration in the extremely hot weather and was even vomiting on the pitch mound. He requested to get off the playing field citing illness reasons but Captain Allan Border said that if he was not strong enough to handle the conditions then he might as well get a real Australian.

It was because Greg Ritchie was up for batting next and was a Queenslander like Border. This comment roused up all sense of manly competition and pride in Dean Jones and he ended up doing the performance of his life, the defining point of his career. This match would also go down in Australian cricket as one of the most epic innings in history.

Dean Jones cricketer would become a regular player on the middle order of the Australian Test team for the next six years. He also became known as one of the stars of the 1989 Ashes tour of England. He was however removed from the Test team in the beginning of the 1992-93 for controversial reasons. This happened despite having premium average scores in the previous Test season against Sri Lanka which left many Australian cricket fans in a state of shock.

These fans speculated that the decision was made as a result of a personal vendetta of their coach at that time Bob Simpson against Dean Jones cricket player. Another possible reason cited is Jones’ tendency to question the motive of the national team selectors in public. Any of these reasons could have caused his premature ejection from the Test team.
